Touching the Summit: Breaking barriers and redefining the journey

Me on Everest Base Camp trek in May 2023

Hi! I’m Caroline, and I’m on a mission to become the first DeafBlind person to summit Mt. Everest!

I have a condition called Usher's Syndrome, which impacts both my hearing and sight. My vision began deteriorating when I was 19. I want to summit Everest while I still have my useful sight and make a memory to look back on if and when I become completely DeafBlind. The purpose of this mission is to challenge the stereotypes of the blind/deafblind community, and document my connections with the Nepalese people.

What’s next?

I will be undertaking various challenges as part of my training for the Everest summit. My plan includes completing races such as an ultra marathon as part of endurance training and engaging in different expeditions to gradually build up my high altitude.

Realising that I might eventually lose all my sight, I need to take action now, and I need your help!
